Raising Your Awareness about Narcotics was established in loving memory of Ryan Kelder, former Kingston High School student, who died of a heroin overdose on August 22, 2015. It is our hope to not only bring awareness of the epidemic that is destroying a generation, but to benefit the community. Through collaboration with various organizations, we can provide positive opportunities to the members of our community.
First, we would like to thank the sponsors of last year’s run. The funds raised by R.Y.A.N. have helped those recovering from addiction and have educated children and parents of Ulster County. We have extended our work throughout Ulster County by telling Ryan’s story at Ulster County High Schools. We have also brought in keynote speakers, like former Boston Celtic Chris Herren and former N.Y. Met Daryl Strawberry, to speak to students and parents in Saugerties, Kingston, and Ellenville to talk about their journey from addiction to recovery.
We are excited to announce that the funds from this year’s run will not only fund our community outreach events but will be used to complete our renovations of the R.Y.A.N. House.
The R.Y.A.N. House is the former Knights of Columbus building located on Barclay Street on Route 9W in Saugerties. We have completed the renovations of the first-floor conference room where over 35 recovery and support group meetings are held each week for anyone in recovery, their family members, or someone grieving the loss of a loved one. Addiction is a family disease. It is our goal to support individuals seeking recovery, as well as their families.
This year we will complete the renovations on the second floor creating a space for a self-sustaining safe, sober, supportive home for individuals who are in recovery and are working to establish themselves back into the community.
R.Y.A.N. has worked hard over the last 9 years to hold family-oriented fundraisers to pay for the community outreach events, as well as this project. We are excited that what was once a dream, has now come to fruition, but we still need your support to reach our goal.
This year the 10TH Annual R.Y.A.N.’s RUN/WALK 5K returns to Loughran Park in Kingston on Sunday, OCTOBER 20th. We are asking businesses, such as yours, if they would like to help sponsor this event. Sponsorship fees range from $200 to $500. If you decide to be a sponsor by September 22nd, we will include the name and/or logo of your business as is indicated on the sponsor form.
Any donation or sponsorship is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please email us at RyansRun5K@outlook.com.
Again, we are grateful for your support.
Sincerely,
The Kelder Family & Team R.Y.A.N.
